The first 90 days

Your first 90 days in a new role are key.Establishing yourself as an asset within this time period is essential and starting off strong will pay dividends later by laying down a solid foundation.

My learnings:

𝟭. 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱. How do peoplein the organisation operate? Where does politics exist? What are the keyrelationships you need to develop?

𝟮. 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. How will you be measured? What isthe impact you want to have?

𝟯. 𝗕𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝟵𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀.

𝟰. 𝗚𝗼 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿. Knowledge is power at this earlystage. Seek out the people who have valuable insight and prepare incisivequestions.

𝟱. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁.

𝟲. 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. Create an analytical framework tomeasure opportunities & prioritise.

𝟳. 𝗦𝗮𝘆 “𝗻𝗼” 𝗼𝗿 “𝗻𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄” 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀.

𝟴. 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻.

As any leader who has ever taken on a new role or mentored someone joining the team knows, there are valuable lessons to be learned in these situations.

How will you make sure that you hit the ground running in your new role?
